Human trafficking is a form of modern-day slavery. It occurs when individuals are controlled, deceived, or coerced into working or performing services against their will.
Traffickers often operate under the guise of legitimate business or relationships, using false promises, emotional manipulation, or threats to exploit their victims.
Vulnerability can stem from economic hardship, isolation, immigration status, or lack of support networks.
Because victims are often hidden in plain sight and may fear authorities or not realize they are being exploited, human trafficking remains one of the most underreported crimes in the world.
